Developed by Portabella, the project includes high quality new build townhouses as well as the refurbishment of an old art deco hospital and ancillary buildings into stylish apartments. Portabella adopt a bespoke approach to interior styling, using cool, contemporary stand-out fixtures and fittings, which include Roca’s sanitaryware, brassware and bathroom furniture.

Recently voted by The Times as one of the top 30 best places to live in Britain, Pontcanna is a vibrant, leafy area in the heart of the city with an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes on the doorstep.

Portabella’s development has been taking place over four phases: The first two phases, ‘The Terrace’ and ‘The Crescent’ are a total of 19 contemporary townhouses, all now completed and occupied. The re-purposing of St Winefride’s Hospital and West Wing is the third phase; sold out and already half-occupied, completion of these 33 units is due in May 2015. The final phase is the conversion of The Lindens, an adjacent Victorian villa into 13 apartments, where completion is due autumn 2015.

Roca’s products have been used in bathrooms throughout the development with extra wide shower cubicles featuring the Essential Shower Column, which includes a hydro massage function; sleek and stylish Kalahari and Element basins, and Meridian-N Compact back to wall WC, to help make the best use of space.

It’s not just the sanitaryware that Roca has contributed; brassware comes courtesy of L20, which includes an eco-disc cartridge to minimise water wastage, and Loft Elite mixer taps. Roca also supplied a range of bathroom furniture from its The Gap Unik, providing functional storage options that also look the part.

“We chose Roca because of their outstanding product range,” said Peter Reilly, Director at Portabella. “Their products are well-designed and of a high quality, with modern styling that complements our bespoke approach to design. The versatility of options is perfect for niche developments like ours and the customer response has been fantastic. Our clients are a fashion-conscious crowd and Roca’s range has certainly met their expectations.

“It wasn’t just the products we liked, either,” he added. “The Roca team have proved hugely helpful and we wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again on future projects. Our new development, Dixie will be also be getting the ‘Roca’ treatment.”
