Roca wins at the IALD Lighting Design Awards

The Roca Barcelona Gallery façade wins the world’s most prestigious lighting award

Roca Barcelona Gallery was recently honoured with an International Lighting Design Award for the innovative concept of its building’s exterior and lighting design. The 27th edition of these awards, organised by the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers), was held in Las Vegas in May of this year.

Roca Barcelona Gallery was created by Borja Ferrater, in collaboration with Carlos and Lucía Ferrater, of architects Estudio OAB.

The building’s façade features a complex lighting system, made up of strips of 8 cm-thick glass measuring 2 cm by 250 cm and lit by 4,200 blue LEDs which convey the sensation of water, a key element associated with Roca. This original effect is based on transparency and reflection.

The IALD Awards, granted by the International Association of Lighting Designers, first took place in 1983 and acknowledge the work of lighting designers, architects and interior designers on an international level, and are one of the design world’s most important accolades.

The Award recognises Roca Barcelona Gallery as one of the most innovative buildings of recent times.

Roca Barcelona Gallery covers a total of 2,400 square metres arranged over three floors and boasts innovative interactive elements and surprising effects, indoors and out, making it a unique space in which to enjoy the “experience” of an exclusive brand.
