The castle of Sant Julià de Ramis is our location to continue the development and new challenges of conceptual, spiritual and recreational growth, a space to grow our teams, activate internal talent and build a gastronomic, cultural and environmental stage. Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca
Situated on the hillside of Sant Julià, near Girona, Esperit Roca rises from the shell of a 19th-century circular fortress to embody a bold and evocative vision of hospitality. Conceived by the renowned Michelin-starred Roca brothers and beautifully designed by Andreu Carulla, the project is both a tribute to heritage and a forward-looking expression of authenticity, locality, and sustainability.
The brothers' most ambitious endeavour, Esperit Roca is an evolving concept that houses a hotel, a restaurant, a distillery, an exhibition space and a wine cellar. The monumental stone architecture of the site, coupled with Carulla’s refined brutalist sensibility, delivers a spatial narrative rooted in the land, memory and material honesty.
The aim of the design was clear: to convey timelessness and honour the legacy of the Roca family’s culinary and creative ethos. Carulla’s response was to embrace the raw power and character of the site, amplifying its original features through minimal intervention and bold material choices. Every decision – down to the smallest detail – was guided by authenticity.
Carulla’s approach was one of reverence for local materials, traditional construction techniques and the surrounding environment. By working with what the site offered – concrete, terracotta, muted tones and the textures of aged metal – the design reflects the rugged beauty of the mountain and the refined character of the Roca chefs’ brand. Even the restaurant’s oaks are borrowed from the landscape, softening the raw concrete with a sense of quiet continuity between inside and out.
The bathrooms at Esperit Roca mirror the project’s overall philosophy: humble materials elevated through thoughtful design and dramatic lighting. Traditionally hidden elements – rough textures and structural surfaces – are revealed and reimagined as focal points. It is in this raw yet refined environment that Andreu Carulla’s Tura toilet finds its natural place.
Part of the Tura collection, the toilet reflects the same values that underpin Esperit Roca: timeless design, respect for materiality and a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean heritage. Inspired by architecture, the Tura collection is defined by sculptural lines and structural clarity. These qualities seamlessly echo the restaurant’s brutal yet poetic identity. Designed for those who appreciate authenticity and enduring elegance, it reinforces the history of the space with a quiet strength.
Adding to this atmosphere of understated sophistication, the Loft electronic faucet combines refined geometry with intuitive functionality. Its sleek, cylindrical silhouette and architectural spout lend a sense of modern precision, while integrated touchless technology enhances both hygiene and ease of use. With water activated by a simple wave of the hand, the Loft faucet offers a user experience that is as elegant as it is efficient.
Esperit Roca is more than a space – it’s a philosophy in built form. A place where landscape, heritage and locality come together. And where every detail, including the bathroom experience, reflects a commitment to abiding design values and the spirit of the Roca brothers
