Four basin configurations for modern bathrooms
From wall hung options to coloured designs, and basins with countertops.
From wall hung options to coloured designs, and basins with countertops.
In the past, a simple bowl on a pedestal was the standard basin option for all bathrooms; today, on the other hand, you can choose from basins with countertops, designs that sit on top of vanity units, wall hung basins, and bowls that are integrated within a shelf or piece of furniture.
And colour is making a comeback too! We’re not talking about ‘the Avocado three-piece suite’ – the colours you’ll find in bathrooms today are sophisticated and muted, including brown, grey and black coloured basins. In this article, we’ll present four ideas for how you can configure your basin, helping you find the option for your bathroom space.
Wall-hung basins with an integrated countertop are available in a wide range of designs, turning the ceramic surface of the basin into a useful additional space for toiletries.
The Inspira collection features basins made from Fineceramic®, a new generation of ceramic developed by Roca. The collection includes a wall-hung basin design, which comes in three sizes; all of them include storage space at the back, around the tap. The medium-sized basin features an additional area on the right of the basin; the largest basin also includes extra countertop space to the left, which is perfect for people who wish to leave their everyday bathroom essentials easy to hand. Opting for a coloured basin in your bathroom will instantly add interest to any design scheme; in addition to the standard white finish, the Inspira wall-hung basins are available in Coffee, Onyx, Pearl, Beige and Matt White.
The Prisma and The Gap ranges also offer wall-hung basins with plenty of shelf space, allowing you to select whether you want the countertop area to the left or right of the bowl. Additionally, the Prisma collection includes a handy towel-rail which can be attached to the side of the basin, combining functionality and design!
Nothing is as simple and elegant as a washbowl sitting on top of a wooden shelf. Manufactured from guaranteed waterproof MDF, the Savana countertop comes in two finishes; City Oak and Gloss White, and is compatible with up to ten different over-countertop basin collections.
The functional design of The Gap on-countertop basin suits most bathroom schemes, and looks particularly sophisticated on the Gloss White Savana shelf (first picture below).
The Inspira on-countertop models come in three designs: Round (second picture below), Soft or Square. They’re all manufactured in Fineceramic® and available in six colours. The Beyond collection of on-countertop coloured basins feature a bold curved design, which looks great in a contemporary setting. They can also be installed in a double-basin configuration (third picture below), which is a practical choice for family bathrooms.
And lastly, the organic Ohtake basins will bring a focal point to any bathroom. Available in two sizes and a range of colours, by combining the Ohtake with a wooden countertop; either the Savana or a custom-made shelf (fourth picture below), you can create a beautiful nature-inspired space.
If the combination of a basin and countertop doesn’t give you enough storage, a furniture unit is your answer. By placing an on-countertop basin on top of a vanity unit, you can create a practical and design-led solution. Pictured here is the Beyond base unit with an on-countertop basin from the same collection. These vanity units are available in the City Oak and White Gloss finishes, and come in a number of lengths, to suit bathrooms of all sizes. The countertop of the Beyond base unit is manufactured from a durable mineral resin called Surfex®, and resembles concrete for a contemporary look.
Our last suggestion is to consider in-countertop basins. These basins are partly set into the countertop shelf or into the base unit. An example is the Carmen collection. The Carmen in-countertop basin can either be combined with one of the collection’s base units (pictured), or it can be installed on a custom-made shelf. The Carmen base units are manufactured from wood, and feature a marble slab on top: the white in-countertop basin will look beautiful half-sunk into the natural stone.
Other collections that include in-countertop basins are the Beyond and Inspira ranges; all of these basins come in six colour options and can be combined with either a base unit or a shelf.
Basins come in all shapes, sizes and colours; and they can be configured in a number of ways to fit most bathroom layouts. Hopefully these four ideas for how basins can be configured into a bathroom space have given you some inspiration to select the design that will work best for you!
