Discover ways to save water with WCs, water saving taps and thermostatic shower mixers

Explore how bathroom innovations including 2-in-1 solutions, sensor taps and aerators can help save water, energy and money.

Small changes in your routine can be vital for saving water and contribute to taking care of our planet. In this article, we explore the best water saving taps, including taps with aerators, sensor taps and thermostatic shower mixers, to help achieve a more efficient bathroom. And by reducing water and energy usage, you’re not only becoming more environmentally friendly, you will be saving money too.

The time we spend waiting for the hot water to flow from our shower is not only tedious, it has a very high environmental cost: several litres of water wasted forever. It would be beneficial in this instance to install one of Roca’s thermostatic shower mixers, providing a water flow at the desired temperature in a matter of seconds without allowing the water to exceed 38ºC, helping us to save energy at the same time. With wall-mounted and built-in thermostatic shower mixers, you can choose from different designs to find the one that best meets your needs. If design is important to you, models like T-1000, with the exclusive Everlux coating, are available in Titanium Black, and collections such as Insignia, can also add a touch of colour to your bathroom in Titanium Black, Rose Gold or Brushed Titanium Black.

A dual flush system is a great choice if you wish to protect the environment and your budget. Always designed with sustainability in mind, Roca toilets incorporate dual flush systems as standard, with the most efficient WCs consuming 4.5 litres for a full flush and 3 litres for a partial flush.

Taps with aerators reduce the water flow and decrease consumption by up to 50% without compromising the feeling of pressure. The aerator is installed in the spout and is incorporated in all Roca basin mixers. The new Roca flow limiters help improve taps with aerators further; they add compact air injection technology to save even more resources. These flow limiters are available in new water saving taps like Cala or Alfa (pictured).

Accidental activation of the boiler consumes energy and may cause the waste of litres of water. The Cold Start system available in Roca’s most innovative basin mixers, prevents the accidental flow of hot water, and with it, the waste of energy and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. With a soft opening system, water saving taps such as those in the Cala collection include this technology, which means that the front opening is exclusively reserved to cold water and the handle must be turned to obtain hot water gradually.

Did you know that leaving a tap running while washing our hands can waste up to 6 litres of water? One way to reduce this amount is to install electronic sensor taps. Using infrared, the tap only operates when motion is detected, shutting off the water supply after a few seconds to avoid unnecessary consumption. Roca’s touchless solutions like L20-E (pictured) or L90-E feature the sensor in the base of the spout, while sensor taps such as Atlas-E or Loft-E place it in the spout for over countertop basin installations. Electronic sensor taps are easy to install and all models can be powered by mains electricity or batteries.

The search for creative and efficient water saving options enabled the Roca Design Centre to develop an innovative 2-in-1 solution that has received numerous international awards. A combination of washbasin and WC, the W+W allows the water from the basin to be filtered and purified before being reused to fill the integrated cistern, ready for the WC flush. Giving water a second life is one of Roca’s most original and efficient solutions when it comes to water saving. The W+W also comes with a basin mixer that incorporates the Cold Start technology.
