Taking a look at the latest design trends for bathroom accessories is fantastic for inspiration and a great way to gather ideas you might not have considered, such as black basin taps, rain showers or a double shower. However, it’s important to pick a look you’re still going to love in a few years time so we’ve selected a few key trends that we think are here to stay. Trends such a green bathroom not only look stylish now but thanks to their timeless designs and simplicity, will last the test of time.

Metallics

There are a few ways you can introduce metallics into your bathroom scheme, and they can be as subtle or as ostentatious as you like. You might want to add accents, or go floor-to-ceiling with shimmering metallic tiles. The most obvious way to add metallics, whether you like gold, brass, copper or silver, is with brassware. A rose gold basin tap or shower mixer in a sleek, contemporary design would look striking with a white basin or against white tiles, or blend in beautifully with plaster-toned colours. Chrome is a favoured choice, and is timeless, but if you want to give it a more luxurious touch consider a period-style fitting. You don’t have to stop at taps and shower mixers, build upon the look with towel rails, light fittings or metallic frames. A bathroom mirror with light is a fantastic way to add to the glow, bouncing light off any metallic hints. And don’t be afraid to use mixed materials – there’s no reason why you can’t combine silver and gold tones for a striking effect, but do stick to one or two colourways, too many and your scheme could look confused.

Bold basins

For a while now it’s been fashionable to make the bathtub centre stage, creating an eye-catching focal point in the room. But it’s time to make way for bold basins and allow them to take the spotlight instead. This is especially effective if the basin is the first thing you see when you walk through the bathroom door, highlighted perhaps with a bathroom mirror with light hanging above. The best way to make the most of the basin area is to choose a freestanding or on counter basin, teamed with an extended height basin tap. You might like a square basin for a contemporary, angular look, or maybe something rounder and curved for a relaxed, serene feel. A bowl shaped basin can look really spectacular, especially in an alternative colourway such as Onyx or Coffee, teamed with on-trend black basin taps. To really draw attention to the basin ensure you keep the countertop clear of clutter, with wall mounted bathroom accessories and furniture to keep toiletries neatly stored and out of sight.

Muted colours

Soft, calming colours often become popular in times of uncertainty. They create a calming space for us to escape to and take comfort from. Right now muted clay colours such as warming blush, plaster and peach are especially on-trend and are surprisingly easy to use, creating a enveloping, cocoon effect on the walls with paint or tiles. Consider textures, particularly on walls – lime wash paint and plaster finishes create a matt effect, as does tadelakt, a natural lime-based plaster. Muted tones can look fresh when teamed with matt white sanitaryware and chrome brassware, or warm with rose gold brassware. Anthracite accents create a contemporary look when paired with pastels or muted colours so black basin taps or bathroom accessories would also be a good choice.

Doubled up bathrooms

If you find yourself fighting for space in the bathroom in the morning then you might consider indulging in this doubled up trend. It does feel quite luxurious, but if you’re fortunate enough to have the budget and the space, on a practical level a double shower or basin area will help mornings flow much more easily. Highlight a double basin area with a bathroom mirror with light above each basin, so you both get a better view when natural daylight is lacking. Double shower spaces with separate rain showers in either a wet area or enclosure, are a great way to ensure your shower is set exactly how you like it – essentially saving time, energy and water every morning. Having two rain showers on the same wall will be easier and less costly when it comes to the plumbing, but having rain showers opposite each other can create a striking symmetrical effect. For a bathroom that is truly made for two, consider a double ended bath with taps in the middle, so you can enjoy the bathroom simultaneously even when you’re not in a rush.

Shades of green

A green bathroom has long been a popular scheme choice, but this green bathroom trend is less about bold and opulent emerald or jade, and more about softer, muted shades like sage and moss. Having a green bathroom is more than just the colour, it’s about being connected to the outdoors and this is reflected in the other colours and materials chosen. Teamed with natural, earthy hues and tactile materials that give texture, this is a look that brings us back to nature and reminds us to take care of it. It pairs perfectly with the Dulux Colour of the Year 2023, Wild Wonder™, a warming neutral inspired by nature. Plants should definitely feature, whether you choose small succulents or something lush and leafy like a fern, or full of interesting shapes like monstera. Panelling painted in a sage green is a simple way of adding colour and interest to a green bathroom, and is perfect for a Soho House-style bathroom, teamed with period-style chrome brassware. For a contemporary look consider mossy coloured furniture, paired with black basin taps. Or create a biophilic look with an eye-catching foliage-printed wallpaper. Green is an easy trend to trial before investing in anything long-lasting or too costly, so add a few bathroom accessories first to see how you get on.
